About This Spot

Stepping into Mengerita Tacos, just a stone’s throw from the historic Alamo, feels like slipping into a quietly cherished neighborhood spot where the pulse of San Antonio’s rich heritage hums softly through each simple, flavorful bite. The setting carries a comforting, old-school vibe that mirrors the city’s timeless charm — unpretentious tables, attentive but easygoing service, and a pace that invites you to breathe in the energy of the plaza without rush or fuss.

This is a place where generations of locals have found their own kind of taco ritual, drawn by the warmth in the kitchen and the subtle art of crafting tacos that carry stories in their ingredients. Whether it’s the tender, smoky barbacoa that’s come to define the city’s signature flavors or the grilled fajitas topped with just the right hint of fresh pico and creamy cheese, each taco feels lovingly composed, a balance of straightforward comfort with a quiet nod to tradition.

The casual atmosphere encourages gathering — friends sharing plates and frozen margaritas, families stopping in to fuel up after a stroll along the River Walk, tourists catching their breath with a quick, satisfying meal before moving on. The staff matches this mood perfectly, offering friendly, welcoming service that makes every guest feel like they’ve just discovered a well-kept secret rather than another stop on the tourist trail.

For those exploring San Antonio’s historic center, Mengerita Tacos offers more than just a meal. It’s a moment of pause, a snapshot of local life where the simple joy of a taco is enough to connect you to the city’s heart and to each other.

I came out to San Antonio to visit the Alamo with my dad, brother, and girlfriend. We ended up walking around and checking out the river walk and decided that we needed some San Antonio tacos. We were recommended by Alexa from San Antonio Tourism to eat here. Absolutely needed and very filling after ordering the two taco meal deal while my dad ordered the Nachos. The San Antonio and The Babe Ruth were my selection and were very delectable. I highly recommend this joint for a quick bite or a big order sit down. 10 out of 10!

Great tacos at a reasonable price after visiting the Alamo! I was worried about finding a decently priced place to eat around the popular Alamo area but ended up stumbling across this taco joint. The tacos were tasty and fairly priced with amazing kids prices. Food also came out extremely fast we waited less than 5 minutes for 5 tacos! Definitely recommend if you are in the area.

The service was really quick, lots of seating and tasty frozen margaritas! The tacos are also really good. Ask about the house favorite, it was in fact delicious. I recommend doing the meal/plate to include a drink and rice and beans.

I happened to stumble across this little joint, and when it comes to eating simple tacos, OMG, this place is just unique! The brisket taco was amazing—rich, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. I cannot say anything more; this is a must-visit place if you are looking for good tacos. Without a doubt, it's one of the best and tastiest tacos I have ever eaten. I could assure you, I have eaten at so many different taco joints, but none compare to this one. If you love tacos, you have to check it out!

As we went in to this establishment it was empty just a couple at a to table. Since it was the closest to the Alamo we didn't want to drive away. This place was simple, seemed a bit old school, but I wouldn't change one thing if it. Works well with the Alamo. The staff was very friendly. Our order was simple as we just order chicken and beef tacos which was soooo delicious. The rice tasted like box rice which it was the only thing that didn't impress me. But I was hungry and it fed me . We notice as we waited for our food the place seem to get a bit busy which was cool. The fountain drink were refreshing to have. Our order was place and received quick. The restaurant was clean and I would definitely visit Mengeritas tacos again!!! I look forward to it.

This was exactly what it needed to be. Great tacos and great service at a great price! Easily some of the best tacos I've ever had in San Antonio and that is saying a lot!

This is a gem for an affordable and yummy spot to eat, just steps from the Alamo. Most of the restaurants in the area are not to great and overpriced, not Mengerita! Delicious fresh tacos, served with a smile. Walk up to order at the counter and brought to your table. All the staff was lovely, really nice local vibe. There was a daily special of a 2 taco plate with drink, for under 10 bucks! We really enjoyed the O Henry and the Sally White tacos. Contected to the historic Menger Hotel this is the place to eat!
